Dragon Naturally Speaking

Published by unilady at 10:31 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Dragon Naturally Speaking is speech recognition software which will be installed on my son’s new, school-board-supplied laptop. This technology is not new, but each version is a huge improvement over the last. One of the early versions of Dragon Dictate sold for $9,000 for a single user license in 1990. Many versions have evolved, and now Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9.0 sells for $129.99 at my local big-box store. Advances in hardware and software allow the company, Nuance, to claim that the software has a 99% accuracy rate. Nuance also claims that if you use the software to write a 900 word essay – it would take you six minutes, but if you type it at a speed of 40 wpm it would take you 22 minutes to type. Since my son only types 20 words per minute, this is going to be a great assistance to him with his writing assignments.
